Memorial Day Flag Placement-East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery
May 26, 2018 @ 8:30 am - 11:00 am EDT
Please join the Great Smoky Mountain Council for the annual placement of flags honoring our veterans. All families and Units are welcome to join us at the East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery at 2200 East Gov. John Sevier Highway, Knoxville to participate in this awe-inspiring annual event. The ceremony will start at 8:30 am and the placement of flags will begin at the conclusion of the short service. This event is a time for reverence, honor, sacrifice and patriotism.
Arrive early as you will park in a designated area and walk to the amphitheater in the back of the cemetery. At the amphitheater, a service will last about 20 minutes. After the service, Scouts and their families will spread out and place an American flag in front of every marker. Afterwards, you will enjoy looking through all the war memorabilia from collectors.
Scouts need to be in complete uniform and bring either a long screwdriver or battery drill with a long 3/8 inch bit to be able to place flags in the ground. We should be done between 10:30am-11:00am.
