STEM Scouts has partnered with Knoxville Utilities Board (KUB) and LDA Engineering to bring you a FREE event where your Scout can learn more about engineering and water quality! The event is Wednesday, April 27th from 5:30-7:00pm at KUB’s Fleming Operation Center.
Registration is limited to only 25 youth (STEM Scouts only), so make sure to reserve your spot now. A parent/guardian must attend with their child.
After a brief welcome from KUB’s President and CEO, Gabe Bolas, Scouts will get a tour of KUB’s water quality lab, look at microorganisms under the microscope (wastewater treatment), discuss some basic lab tests, and focus on the importance of water quality and source water protection.
LDA Engineering will have two demonstrations:
- LDA’s President, Jason Brooks, will be doing the watershed demonstration. This tabletop model provides students with an understanding of the relationships of the water cycle, land uses, and processes used to protect and preserve watersheds.
- Mackenzie Martin will be doing a water and wastewater (aka clean water) treatment demonstration. This tabletop model demonstrates the relationships of source waster, land used, distribution and collection, and treatment processed used to provide safe and reliable water to homes and businesses and return it to the source for future reuse.
