Ensuring the safety of Scouts during transportation to and from Scouting activities is a top priority. To help maintain safety and adhere to Scouting guidelines, please remember the following:
Driving Time Limits
- Maximum driving time is 10 hours within a 24-hour period, regardless of the number of drivers available. This ensures drivers do not become fatigued, which could compromise safety.
Barriers to Abuse Supervision Requirements
- Ensure compliance with two-deep leadership at all times. This means there must always be at least two qualified adults present during transport.
- No one-on-one situations: Never transport a Scout alone with a single adult. Always ensure there is another adult or Scout in the vehicle, maintaining proper supervision.
Age Requirements for Drivers
- Only adults aged 18 or older are allowed to drive. Youth drivers are prohibited under any circumstances.
Pre-Trip Planning and Vehicle Inspections
- Always use the SAFE Transportation Checklist and conduct a Pre-Trip Inspection of the vehicle. These tools help you plan transport effectively and ensure the vehicle is in safe working condition before starting the trip. You can access the SAFE Transportation Checklist and Pre-Trip Inspection here.
By following these guidelines, you help ensure the safety and well-being of all Scouts during transportation.
