East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery
5901 Lyons View Pike

Schedule:
1. Meet at 8:30 am at the rotunda (The program will start at 9:00)
2. Presentation of Colors
3. Pledge of Allegiance
4. Meaning of Memorial Day
5. Recognition and/or comments by attending dignitaries/elected officials
6. Playing of Taps & Rifle Volley – Volunteer State Veterans Honor Guard
7. Flag Placement
Instructions on how to place flags:
● Family and Friends of those interred will pick up their flags first
● Groups should start at the end of one row and complete that row before moving to next row
● Flags will be provided and located at stations throughout the cemetery
● Adults, please help distribute flags to each scout in small quantities so that everyone has a chance to place flags
● One flag should be place 12” in front and center of each marker
● Use a tool to make a hole for the flag stick. If you try to shove it in the ground it will break!
● Flags DO NOT Touch the ground
● Broken and leftover flags should be returned to the rotunda.
Guidelines:
● Scouts must be in Class A uniforms
● All Scouts under 13 should be supervised by an adult
● Please remember this is sacred ground and should be respected at all
times
● Please bring tools to aid in making a ¼” hold in the ground for the flag
stick. (Example – A battery powered drill with a paddle bit or a large
Phillips Head Screwdriver with a rubber mallet hammer)
● This event will occur rain or shine so be prepared. If severe weather
approaches adults are responsible for the safety of the Scouts in their
care.

FLAG PICK UP DAY
Flag pickup day is Saturday June 1rd at 10:00 am. Great opportunity for Scouts to help who may be out of town on the day of the placement ceremony
