Lodge Chief Job Description

The Lodge Chief is the elected youth leader of the lodge. They are responsible for overseeing all lodge functions, ensuring effective leadership, and representing the lodge at the council, section, and national levels. Working closely with the Lodge Adviser, Staff Adviser, and Lodge Executive Committee (LEC), the Lodge Chief ensures the lodge operates smoothly and within national OA and BSA guidelines. 

Ensures that the lodge’s program supports both the mission of the Order of the Arrow and the needs of the council. They set the tone for the lodge’s spirit and service and help inspire others to be active and engaged. They also serve as the lodge’s youth representative on the Council Executive Board and a member of the Section and National Council of Chiefs.

    • Oversees all lodge operations, events, and functions, setting the direction for the lodge

    • Manages lodge officers, chapter chiefs, and appoints committee chairmen to ensure effective leadership throughout the lodge

    • Represents the lodge at section and national OA events and participates in Council of Chiefs meetings

    • Works with advisers to maintain compliance with national OA and BSA policies

    • Works to lead the lodge to always become better, making changes for the betterment of the lodge, not just change for change’s sake

    • Serves as the lead role model of the lodge, showing their support for the virtues of our Order like Brotherhood, Cheerfulness, and Service in their life, conversations and actions.
