STEM Scouts will be embarking on an incredible educational journey to Oak Ridge National Laboratory. During this visit, your child will have the unique opportunity to explore three remarkable facilities: the X-10 Graphite Reactor, the Supercomputer, and the Robotics Lab.

At the X-10 graphite reactor, they will witness the birthplace of the atomic age and learn about the fascinating history and science behind nuclear energy. They will learn about the important role this facility played in shaping our understanding of nuclear power.

Next, your STEM Scout will have the chance to visit the Frontier Supercomputer, a marvel of computational power. Frontier is the fastest computer in the world and according to ORNL’s website: “The system is the first to achieve an unprecedented level of computing performance, a threshold of a quintillion calculations per second”

Finally, at the robotics lab, your STEM Scout will engage with state-of-the-art robotic systems and witness the latest advancements in the field. They will have hands-on experiences and explore the intricacies of designing and programming robots.
